Is Abraham Lincoln really the Great Emancipator? Recent critics have argued Lincoln was reluctant to abolish slavery and only issued the Emancipation Proclamation as a means to further the interests of white Americans. What were Lincoln's political, military, and humanitarian reasons behind the Emancipation Proclamation? Dr. Prokopowicz, one of the country’s leading Lincoln specialists, will discuss the complexity of these issues and how Lincoln's move toward equality forever changed American race relations. Time for Q&A will be allotted after the lecture.
Presented by Abraham Lincoln Association of Indiana and Indiana Historical Society. Questions? Call 232-1878 or e-mail cwood@indianahistory.org.
