Oct. 26: Soledad O'Brien on "Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes and In Our Lives"

CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien discusses her work and background

When: Wednesday 26 October, 7:30 PM

Where: Butler University, Clowes Hall, 4602 Sunset Ave. Indianapolis

Morning viewers of CNN know Soledad O’Brien very well, perhaps in the overly intimate and overly fluffy fashion of morning news these days, they know her a bit too well. She is a distinguished journalist who brings a unique heritage of Latino, Irish and African-American cultures to the microphone. With this global perspective, she shares with audiences her role as a woman in the media and her road to success in the sometimes cut-throat TV news business. Balancing motherhood with her fulltime career, she is the former host of NBC's Weekend Today show, MSNBC's Morning Blend, and reporter for NBC Nightly News. O'Brien has covered such notable stories as the school shootings in Colorado and Oregon, Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center from Ground Zero. The event is free but requires tickets, which are available at the Clowes box office after September 16.

A Hallmark event of Butler's Hispanic Heritage Celebration, The Celebration of Diversity Distinguished Lecture Series is a collaborative diversity initiative between Butler University and the Office of the Mayor, with generous support from the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, Vectren Corporation, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allison Transmission, Citizens Gas, Kroger, and Duke Realty Corporation.

Welcome to IndyBuzz

IndyBuzz provides information about Central Indiana's most stimulating and thought provoking events -- discussions and conferences, art exhibitions, films, music performances. It tells you what's happening … explains why you should be part of what’s happening. More than an events calendar, though, IndyBuzz tries to make events more meaningful for participants by suggesting an article or two to read before the event, recommending books or websites that will be sources of further information after the event, and pointing out related events that are worth attending.

Visit IndyBuzz's sister site, http://www.provocate.org/, which provides a context for the clusters of the events discussed in IndyBuzz.
