Working with the World: Effective Intercultural Communication is a seminar for companies and organizations of all sizes to understand the impact of cultures on their business, to develop effective responses, and to build on cultural diversity in their organizations
When: Wednesday, March 1 -- 7:30 AM - 3:15 PM
Where: Dow AgroSciences Employee Development Center
The Employers Forum hosted by the International Center of Indianapolis will focus on the rapidly growing economies of India, Japan, Peoples Republic of China, South Korea and Taiwan. The seminar will explore how Indiana companies can attract a diverse workforce, engage and retain multicultural employees and effectively compete in an increasingly global business environment.
Speakers include local and international experts on diversity in the workplace. Dow AgroSciences President and CEO Jerome PĂ©ribere, will launch the day’s discussion with comments regarding the opportunities for diverse perspective as Dow AgroSciences operates in more than 50 nations.
Nathan Feltman, Executive Vice President & General Council of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will share with participants an Indiana perspective on how global diversity is more than a “buzzword” and how global business is impacting Indiana’s economy.
Kenneth Morris, Vice President – Diversity, Inclusion & Worklife at Guidant, will deliver a message emphasizing the critical role of diversity in cultivating a global workforce.
A highlight of the conference will be an interactive presentation by management and leadership training consultant Sivasailam Thiagarajan, better known as Thiagi. Originally from Chennai, India, Thiagi is retained by banks, manufacturing firms and a variety of corporations to create job aids, incentive systems and training programs. During the Employers Forum, Thiagi will focus on helping participants enhance their cross-cultural training skills to successfully communicate in multicultural work environments. Focusing on “how” as opposed to the “why”, Thiagi will lead an interactive session that demonstrates techniques used in his widely successful “Barnga” game.
Also speaking will be Jack Keogh, President of Keogh & Associates Consulting LLC. An internationally recognized expert in human capital strategies, Mr. Keogh will discuss how emotional intelligence operates across language borders.
Tony Murphy, Senior Vice President Human Resources for Eli Lilly and Company will discuss and share how today’s business leaders are managing multicultural challenges within global organizations.
A luncheon featuring the flavors of Asia will complement the forum.

Welcome to IndyBuzz
IndyBuzz provides information about Central Indiana's most stimulating and thought provoking events -- discussions and conferences, art exhibitions, films, music performances. It tells you what's happening … explains why you should be part of what’s happening. More than an events calendar, though, IndyBuzz tries to make events more meaningful for participants by suggesting an article or two to read before the event, recommending books or websites that will be sources of further information after the event, and pointing out related events that are worth attending.
