The Music of Art: Daughter of the Regiment

Members of the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble will perform excerpts from Daughter of the Regiment (La fille du rĂ©giment), a comedic opera composed by Gaetano Donizetti and first performed for French audiences in 1840. The story follows the romantic entanglements of Marie, a daughter in love with a peasant soldier but pressured to marry an aristocrat’s son. After the concert, see works of art in IMA’s European galleries that offer views of class differences in 19th-century French life.
